Kayapo do Para DSEI manufactures face-shields for the villages
Until now, there is no confirmed case of COVID-19 in the indigenous villages of the South Para. In order to maintain that situation, the Kayapo do Para Indigenous Special Health District (DSEI) has made transparent acetate face-shields to ensure the safety and well-being of health professionals and the communities they serve.
The Indigenous Health Multidisciplinary Team manually manufactures the equipment and it is in accordance with the technical notes issued by the Indigenous Special Health Secretariat of the Ministry of Health (SESAI/MS).
The material is cut and attached to head tiaras that can be sanitized and reused. They do not replace the disposable or tissue masks that are also worn underneath the face-shields. The Personal Protective Equipment prevents contact with droplets, saliva and nasal fluids that may reach the face, nose, mouth and eyes of the dentist or patient.
The team responsible for manufacturing the masks states that it prevents the contagion of viruses, bacteria and other contaminants. In addition to offering protection, it also allows clear conversation without muffling the voice.
