Solidarity Campaign for companies collects donations for indigenous villages
Those interested in donating food and equipment must register on the website of FUNAI.
The federal government, through the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) and the Special Secretariat of Indigenous Health (SESAI/Ministry of Health), with the support of the Brazilian Armed Forces, states and municipalities has made efforts to protect and support more than 800,000 indigenous people living in 5,614 Brazilian villages. The pandemic caused by the new coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected everyone and has impacts on the way of life of traditional peoples.
Indigenous peoples depend economically on natural resources to sustain their communities. With the continuity of social isolation measures, indigenous peoples have been suffering from the impossibility of leaving their villages, without receiving tourism and commercializing handicrafts, products and food. This situation has awakened the Brazilian people’s sense of solidarity, which is why FUNAI launched the Solidarity Campaign to receive private donations to complement the federal government’s actions to fight against the spread of COVID-19.
Interested parties must have the National Registry of Legal Entities (CNPJ) and register at the public notice of FUNAI until 15 May, 6 p.m..The public notice aims to give legality and transparency to the donation process. It is necessary to inform what type of donation will be made and in which Federation Unit (State) it should be delivered.
Non-perishable food, hygiene and cleaning items, clothing, blankets, agricultural inputs and tools, seeds, fishing materials, masks and gloves for individual protection will be accepted. After the approval of the public notice, the donations will be delivered to the decentralized units of FUNAI, by scheduling. Through its 34 Special Health Districts (DSEI), the SESAI supports the donation campaing with the participation of its Indigenous Multidisciplinary Teams, transporting part of the donations and ensuring the disinfection of food baskets.---
