New representatives elected from the CONDISI Presidents Forum
The members of the recently reinstalled Indigenous Health District Council Presidents Forum (FPCONDISI) elected the coordination and the board of directors responsible for monitoring the implementation of the actions of the Special Indigenous Health Secretariat (SESAI), of the Ministry of Health, during a meeting held from December 7 to 10, in Brasília. There were four days of meetings, lectures and debates that culminated in the election of members of the FPCONDISI.
There are 34 presidents of CONDISI, one for each Indigenous Special Sanitary District (DSEI) in the country. They are elected on a local basis and represent the users of the Indigenous Health Subsystem (SASI/SUS) who are served by the Federal Government directly in the villages.
The FPCONDISI has the responsibility to follow up and suggest basic health actions in the 34 DSEI to improve the services that SESAI brings to all indigenous peoples. In all, 28 presidents participated in the vote that chose Erivelto Fernandes do Nascimento, president of CONDISI Médio Rio Purus, as general coordinator of the FPCONDISI and Fernando José de Moura Neto, of CONDISI Ceará, as vice general coordinator.
They are representatives of the North 1 and Northeast regions elected with 27 votes. Soon they were also elected representatives of the North 2, Central-West and South-Southeast regions. The substitute from the South-Southeast will be decided at a later date due to the absence of CONDISI Litoral Sul and the disincompatibilization of the president of CONDISI Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.
For Erivelto Nascimento, elected general coordinator, the CONDISI Presidents Forum is a legitimized instance by the 34 district councils which in turn represent almost 6,000 villages with 1,700 district councillors. "Social Control of Indigenous Health is inside the villages, at the base every day. A conquest of all the indigenous peoples of Brazil. Even actions of high and medium complexity are being carried out within the villages by SESAI, in partnership with other institutions, representing a great advance for us indigenous people".
The Special Secretary of Indigenous Health, Robson Santos da Silva, emphasizes that "SESAI is an achievement of the indigenous people, there is no way to talk about SESAI without talking about Social Control. The election of the board of directors of the CONDISI Presidents Forum was another important step to improve indigenous health in Brazil and this was done in harmony and tranquility. A great achievement for everyone".
All the members elected to the board took office on Thursday (10).
