DSEI Yanomami has Permanent Actions to Combat Malaria
The fight against malaria is a routine action in the Yanomami DSEI.
Every day there is some activity being done in the villages of the Yanomami Indigenous Land. Whether it is meetings with the population to talk about the disease, or the active search for possible contaminated people or, especially, the supervised treatment.
The Multidisciplinary Indigenous Health Teams (EMSI) spare no effort to combat malaria which is still endemic in the region where the Yanomami live. In the Base Pole Médio Padaueri, the professionals carried out health education and active search activities in the Bandeira Branca Basic Unit located in the municipality of Barcelos - AM. There, they attended to a population of up to 578 Yanomami indigenous people.
A sequence of actions are already planned, at least until June 2022. The goal is to reduce the number of cases of autochthonous malaria, that is, those that originate in the Yanomami region itself.
